Hi! My name is Megan Beasley and I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year! This is my eighth year teaching at Elon Park. I taught first grade for 5 years and am excited to see some of my first graders as FOURTH GRADERS this year! This will be my 3rd year teaching fourth grade at Elon Park. Before coming to EPES, I taught Pre-Kindergarten at a private preschool here in the South Charlotte area. I am looking forward to all the learning in store for us this year!
In 2009, I graduated from Radford University in Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and a minor in dance (concentration in classical ballet). In August of that same year, I married my husband of now 9 years and joined him in Charlotte. Charlie and I have a beautiful, happy, full of personality preschooler named Elise. She will be four this October. Last Thanksgiving we welcomed our baby boy into the world. He weighed just 1lb less than the turkey I prepared hours before his arrival! Lincoln is my little snuggle bug but has also introduced me to a life with a boy. He’s curious, happy, crawling as fast as he can, and thinks his big sister is the greatest! Elise and Lincoln are best friends and my whole heart. We also have a border collie mix, Riley, who is still trying to accept that these kiddos are not going away :) .
I grew up in Galax, Virginia. Some of you may know the name from the Galax Fiddler's Convention and the Hillsville Flea Market...both very exciting events for our community! Whenever I need to take a break from the fast paced city life, home is where I go. It's a wonderful place to go for some R&R. I grew up in a very rural area where everyone knew everyone and there were only a handful of restaurants. What a change of culture it was to move to Charlotte! I have loved every minute of it though. One thing that I love most is all of the opportunity available for providing an upbringing of experiences for children. I grew up with limited types of sports, ballet and music. My children will grow up being provided experiences in anything their heart desires and truly discover what their natural talents are whether it be in culinary, sports, or the arts.
Just a few notes about my background...
I began ballet at 3 years old and continued into college. As previously mentioned I studied classical ballet at Radford University and obtained a minor in dance. The first couple of years living in Charlotte I taught ballet but grew tired of giving up my Saturdays away from family so I "retired" from teaching dance. I began soccer at age 5 and continued through my senior year of high school. I played starting line up on the varsity team from 9th-12th grade. I began piano lessons at age 8 and continued through my senior year. I still love to dust off the ivory keys whenever I visit my parents and can’t wait to have a piano in my own home one day. I played flute in the school band until I discovered my talent in music was with the alto saxophone. I played my grandfather's alto from 8th grade-12th grade and sat 1st chair alto for most of those years. I grew up with 1 brother, Chad, who is 3 1/2 years older than me. It is a very loud and exciting time when we all get together. My nephew, Gage, just started kindergarten in VA and loves it. We will be welcoming our 2nd nephew, Zander, into the world in the new couple of weeks!
In my free time I love to spend time with Charlie, Elise and Lincoln. I try to keep our calendar filled with get togethers with friends but also quality time with family. Traveling the world is my dream. I’m usually deep in a good book, which is usually some type of parenting book! Although I have had many exciting adventures with athletics and the fine arts, education is where I always come back to. There is no other profession where you can have a hands on approach to shaping a child's future and have front row seats to their success. There are so many rewarding things a teacher gets out of teaching children and I have truly enjoyed my time at Elon Park. Our slogan in this classroom is that readers become leaders. I'm honored to be apart of shaping our future leaders of this amazing country.
I believe parents, teachers and students working together will make this year a GREAT year. I look forward to many fourth grade adventures this year!
